Rob Dinerman’s latest book, A Tribute To The Career Of Peter S. Briggs,
was commissioned by the Racquets Committee of the Apawamis Club in Rye,
NY, which held a huge party on December 10, 2021, to mark Briggs’s
recent 70th birthday and in recognition of his 33 years of service to
the club as its head squash pro and Director of Racquet Sports. The
book, hundreds of copies of which were handed out to attending club
members, was presented to Briggs during the party, and was one of
several honors --- including naming the entire squash facility after
him, debuting a Peter Briggs Head racquet and making him an honorary
lifetime club member --- that were bestowed on him that evening. The
book traces Briggs’s squash odyssey all the way from its unusual
beginning --- when as a six-year-old he wandered onto the one squash
court near the smokestacks aboard the RMW Queen Mary ocean liner ---
through his years of stardom at Harvard and beyond during his Hall of
Fame playing career and later as the coach at Cornell for four years,
followed by his continuing tenure at Apawamis.
